Service accused of ‘dumping’ government background checks

U.S. Investigations Services was charged with making false claims and breaching a government contract after it was discovered that more than 665,000 background screenings had been fraudulently labeled as completed. The company allowed approximately 40 percent of their investigations to be “dumped” — or marked “complete” without a thorough screening having been performed  — by computer programs without conducting the proper background check process required by contract. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management is the government branch that was providing payment for these unknowingly incomplete services.
