November 2013 employment report shows gain of 203,000 jobs

according to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics. Over the past 12 months, employment growth has averaged 195,000 jobs per month. Among specific industries, the report found:

  • Professional and business services employment gained 35,000 jobs in November 2013. Over the prior 12 months, the industry added an average of 55,000 jobs per month.
  • Transportation and warehousing employment rose by 31,000 jobs in November 2013, with gains mostly in couriers and messengers, truck transportation, warehousing and storage, and air transportation.
  • Health care employment gained 28,000 jobs, and job growth has averaged 19,000 jobs per month thus far this year compared with an average monthly gain of 27,000 jobs in 2012.
  • Manufacturing added 27,000 jobs in November 2013, with gains occurring mostly in food manufacturing and in motor vehicles and parts.
  • Retail trade employment expanded by 22,000 jobs in November 2013. Over the prior 12 months, job growth in retail trade averaged 31,000 jobs per month.
  • Leisure and hospitality employment in food services and drinking places added 18,000 jobs in November 2013 and growth in this industry averaged 28,000 jobs per month over the prior 12 months.
  • Construction employment gained 17,000 jobs in November 2013. Monthly job gains in the industry averaged 15,000 jobs over the prior 12 months.
In addition, the change in employment for September 2013 was revised from 163,000 jobs added up to 175,000 jobs added and the change for October 2013 was revised from 204,000 jobs added down to 200,000 jobs added.]]>
