Missouri Dept of Health finds safety violations at daycare centers

recently cited for safety violations at their facilities during Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services inspections. The violations ranged from peeling paint on baseboards, to not having background check records easily accessible at the facilities, to staff members napping when they should have been watching the children. Each center had between one and 12 violations; only one of them received more, with 20 violations. None of the facilities had their licenses revoked due to the violations. KinderCare Learning Centers — the facility that had the napping caregiver — self-reported the incident, and has fired the employee. Nine other violations were found at that facility, including missing medical exam reports, and lack of documentation about tuberculosis testing and employee background checks. Colleen Moran, KinderCare’s spokesperson, said that KinderCare was cooperating in getting documentation to the Department. The facility with the most violations — A World of Discoveries day care center — included several citations for peeling paint in the classrooms and on the building’s exterior, missing electrical outlet covers, and missing documentation about requirements for background checks, CPR training, and various medical records. The owner, Florence Rainey-Hicks, said the facility had the proper documentations to meet the requirements, but that they were not immediately accessible at the time of the inspection. She will be providing the proper documentation to the department as well. Both the Child Development Center of Columbia and the Lots of Love Preschool Childcare Center only had one violation apiece.]]>
