February 2017 employment: US adds 235,000 jobs
The Employment Situation‘ report released by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate in the United States remained quite steady at 4.7%, while the economy added 235,000 jobs, in February. The report indicated that the number of unemployed persons in the U.S. decreased to 7.5 million in February 2017. Employment increased in construction, professional and technical services employment private educational services, manufacturing, health care, and mining. Among the major worker groups, the unemployment rate decreased for Whites to 4.1 percent in February, while the jobless rates for adult men (4.3 percent), adult women (4.3 percent), teenagers (15.0 percent), Blacks (8.1 percent), Asians (3.4 percent), and Hispanics (5.6 percent) showed little or no change. The employment situation for December was revised from 157,000 to 155,000 jobs added while January was revised from 227,000 to 238,000 jobs added. With the revisions, employment gains in these two months were 9,000 jobs more than previously reported.]]>
