Report: Faulty FBI background checks add to loss of jobs
The National Employment Law Project released a report this week saying that 50 percent of the information provided to employers by the FBI about job applicants only includes arrests, but not how those arrests turned out, such as whether there was a conviction. This may give potential employers the impression that a person’s criminal record is worse than it actually is, and may result in an applicant being wrongfully rejected, The Washington Post reports. “One third of felony arrests do not result in conviction and many others are reduced to misdemeanors,” the employment project report states.
Solution
But don’t worry, and certainly don’t let such statistics prevent you from performing background checks on your staff. One simple solution is to hire a professional screening service to ensure you collect all the relevant information about your candidates. While there are a plethora of screening companies out there, did you know that less than 2% of all of the background screening companies out there are accredited by the NAPBS (National Association of Professional Background Screeners)? It’s a small pool of companies that can really provide the information you need, in a reliable manner. So choose wisely. If you’re interested in talking to a screening company accredited by the NAPBS, contact us today and find out how we can tailor a background check program to suit your needs.]]>You May Also Like
