E-Verify to dispose of decade-old records
purging all transaction records that are more than 10 years old from its system database. This is in an attempt to minimize the amount of Personal Identifiable Information that the U.S. Government maintains, to reduce the risk of online security threats. E-Verify is a free web-based application that allows employers to ensure that their employees are legally able to work in the United States, by checking that they have proper documentation of citizenship or legal work documents. The system is maintained through the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, via the Department of Homeland Security. Employers that wish to maintain copies of their E-Verify records must download them on or before December 31, 2015, prior to the system purge. The National Archives and Records Administration has provided instructions for those who wish to download their “historic records reports” before they are wiped from the system. Records will no longer be available after the end of the year. This records purge will only affect those employers who were using the E-Verify system on or before December 31, 2005. Each year moving forward, employers will be notified of their opportunity to download records reports that will be removed that year, as E-Verify is required to continue to purge records after 10 years. The download is simple and works with basic .csv Excel files (but will also work with Word or Notepad).]]>
