Background check reveals murder warrant

Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Johnny Wright had eluded police for 33 years despite being a suspect in the disappearance of a woman in 1976. Wright, 66, was arrested in September 2009 when he asked Lawrenceville police to conduct a background check for a prospective employer. The check brought up his warrant and he was extradited to Missouri. Wright was the last person seen in August 1976 with 23-year-old Rebecca Doisy, an aspiring teacher and part-time waitress. Doisy was taking time off from pursuing her degree at the University of Missouri, her sister had previously said. “He had been bothering her at work, trying to get her to go out with him,” Kathleen Doisy told the AJC. Finally, Becky agreed to have a drink with Wright. She was last seen alive that day: Aug. 5, 1976. She was reported missing and Wright was questioned regarding her disappearance, but released due to lack of evidence. Nine years on, in 1985, someone came forward with new information and an arrest warrant but he couldn’t be tracked down. Doisy’s body has never been found. What is significant here is that a background check revealed information from such a long time ago. This emphasizes the fact to businesses that employees ought to perform background checks on current employees as well as new hires. Don’t assume your business is safe and all employees are trustworthy. After all, it’s better to be safe than sorry, and I’m sure that in this case the prospective employer, Doisy’s family and the police are all happy and relieved that Wright was asked for a background check.]]>
