11 year old background check fails parents

Sierra Sun, a nanny who was employed through a childcare service operator has recently been arrested for theft and child endangerment. Louise Anne Perry, 43, had passed a background check when she first started with the company, but that was 11 years ago. Since then, Perry has received convictions for burglary and narcotics, and her criminal history also revealed she had been arrested in Napa County for driving under the influence, according to the police report. Sharon Reynolds, owner of North Lake Nannies, said: “As far as I knew, (Perry) had a spotless reputation in the industry for the past 20 years, and she was a personal friend. I was not aware of her probation from Napa County. Obviously, I feel very burned by someone I thought was my personal friend, and I am extremely disappointed she did not let me know the crimes (in Napa County) occurred.” Reynolds said background checks are an “exceedingly important” part of her business and she. She also said she recently employed a service that will routinely conduct background checks on current employees. It’s important to remember that a single background check upon employment is simply not enough, especially when children are involved.
